Mind Madness

An old (well over 10 years ago) crazy "all-over" Horo-Vacue drawing, from the tail end of my Rapidograph stage. The game was basically to fill the entire paper with the same visual density, hoping the viewer would not be able to tell where you started, while drinking good coffee. I also learned something through these drawings, by having no pencil guides and no way to correct. In this picture in particular, the content is really disjointed, but the game was merely to fill all the space, not make sense in the end.

Mickey!

In memorium to Michael Jackson. One of the most chilling things I ever read about him (MJ) was in a Newsweek article from 1994 (?) in which he said all of his plastic surgery was an attempt to look more like Mickey Mouse. Coincidentally, we have been watching through a lot of old Mickey Mouse cartoons lately. My favorite period of Mickey is the "black eye" period, before you can see his whites. I think Donald Duck might have been one of the first Disney characters to show the whites of his eyes. And, as I always do when talking "Mickey," I shout "UB IWERKS!"

Orson!

I haven't posted since my wife went into labor last Friday. It has been a breathtaking adventure, and now we are the proud parents of Orson Edwin Lux Marcel.

Illustrations I did for friend's poems in a high school publication...years ago. It is humbling to look back on it now. I was addicted to Rapidograph pens for years...

a few more on cardboard

3 more on cardboard...I think 1997 was a kind of cardboard year...I swear there are not too more of these coming, but it's fun letting them see the light of day again before forever finding a bed in ashes.
