Finished this painting up last week for Paul Riddle's "The Undying" RPG. Black and White Acrylic on canvas.
One of the more unsettling pieces I have done. I think it has that nice nightmarish quality where you don't quite recognize whats going on, and then the content focuses and "Oh shit! That's fire!" and it's suddenly more impressive.
There are no Night photos of the Seattle Great fire of course because the cameras were not that good.
So I had to imagine the docks and warehouses burning. The research was interesting and fun as it usually is.
The photo was challenging. This image is fairly compressed but so much of the original painting rests on the subtle differences of shades of black, especially behind the fire in the hills. I can only hope the High Res PDF will look good in the printing.
Also I must give credit to my wife Emily Lux who brought it all together with some of the finishing touches of the Stars in the background. Love the stars peaking through the smoke clouds.
And on another note...We had Fiber Optic installed today so I will be posting more again if time permits. Cheers.
