Portland Community College Faculty Show

My 24' x 48" Acrylic painting I just finished for the PCC "Disembodied Hands" Faculty Show.
Extremely difficult to execute in just a couple weeks with a one year old and a five year old and no real time to dedicate, which was precisely the inspiration for the image.  A a certain point I gave up trying to make a "painting" and just tried to execute a decent "colored drawing." An annoying fact of acrylic painting is, even using an open or extending medium I found that the paint would pill up in the 90 degree heat rather easily, leaving little boogers all over the canvas.

Conversation pieces

Moving Art "Conversations-1" Mixed media.

I have been wanting to do something like this for years. Huge learning curve. The second one will be a little better. Getting "best resolutions" and "best platform for distribution" decisions need to get tightened up. Started out confusing myself on making a gif and then resorted to Vine. The high resolution mov. that I made won't play on my desktop but it looks fantastic.

The Undying Painting : Great Seattle Fire of 1889

Finished this painting up last week for Paul Riddle's "The Undying" RPG. Black and White Acrylic on canvas.
One of the more unsettling pieces I have done. I think it has that nice nightmarish quality where you don't quite recognize whats going on, and then the content focuses and "Oh shit! That's fire!" and it's suddenly more impressive.
There are no Night photos of the Seattle Great fire of course because the cameras were not that good.
So I had to imagine the docks and warehouses burning. The research was interesting and fun as it usually is.

The photo was challenging. This image is fairly compressed but so much of the original painting rests on the subtle differences of shades of black, especially behind the fire in the hills. I can only hope the High Res PDF will look good in the printing.
Also I must give credit to my wife Emily Lux who brought it all together with some of the finishing touches of the Stars in the background. Love the stars peaking through the smoke clouds.

And on another note...We had Fiber Optic installed today so I will be posting more again if time permits. Cheers.

Army of Darkness Black Velvet painting. I did this as a Christmas present and now it hangs as a mantelpiece.

Saying goodbye to old faces.

Sold these paintings. Selling a painting is like saying goodbye to an old friend. Especially some that are years and years old. You get used to having them around. It's a nice motivation to make more though.

Mural at Heart2Heart farms

Another whirlwind mural commission. This time at
http://heart2heartfarms.com/
that my wife Emily Lux and I kicked out over the last couple days.
We recycled leftover housepaint for the colors.
The room itself was unfinished, so that actually helped speed things up. We didn't have to worry about getting a few drips on the floor!

Bon Voyage painting!

It's so gratifying to see a work put into a frame it deserves. This painting will live behind glass instead of gather dust in the garage! Cheers!

Painting a window.

Painted on the back side of the glass was something I had never done before.
It's not finished. My wife, Emily Lux, is putting the top coat of paint on the outside of the glass, for more detail and bringing it all together.
